Founded in 1891 as Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, this school did not change its name until becoming co-educational in 2007. Students say there are at least three ghosts haunting the campus, the first of which is an old woman whose apparition has been seen in the West Dating Parlor. Another spirit is said t be that of a student who was murdered while wearing purple clogs; her ghost can still be heard walking about the dorm where she once lived. The last is Mary Stokes or, at the very least, a wicked spirit inhabiting the garden named after her. Students say that if you stray from the path and cross through Mary’s Garden you will be cursed never to marry or graduate.
