Took my wife and teenage sons tonight. I will start by saying get there early! We got there at 6:30 and still had to wait around 45 min before we got our tickets, which I don’t mind because it’s part of the experience with a haunted forest. This was one of the first of its kind in the area and I have been going on and off for the last 20 years or so. When I started going it was a great experience. Most of the scares were in the woods and not in multiple houses like they are now. You could get hot chocolate and cook a hot dog over the fire. Not now it is entirely too crowded. You will wait longer to get your food as long as it takes to get your ticket.... I don’t want to completely bash the place a lot of it was legitimately scary. I have always felt the cast is always the most important part of a Haunted House, Forest etc.... some of the cast was great but there were literally people there working with NO costume on. It was very bizarre and lazy. Maybe( I honestly don’t know )they were customers and if that was the case that is a HUGE safety issue. It was a very sparse cast who mostly relied on banging stuff or overdoing chainsaws. Much of cast actually broke character and would start talking to us. One was actually on his cell phone when we got out of a house and he apologized to us. A handful of cast were great and had good costumes and we’re actually pretty scary. Especially the guy with the stilts. The multiple houses were pretty well done for the most part and have some good props and effects but the lack of cast and effective cast as well as the overuse of chainsaws, which is just plain lazy on the creativity part really dropped the score for me. Still prefer the competitor off staples mill ( won’t name names because I’m not a troll) because it focuses on an experience instead of jump scares.

  • Really GREAT

Overall I loved it. Even though they were understaffed, I was spooked by the passion of the actors. I lost an item during the trail and when I went up to the front, staff had it waiting to be claimed. Really convienent. Would go again.

We had a pretty disappointing experience there last night after hearing so much hype, so this is gonna be long. Overall it had pretty predictable scares and a sparse cast, especially for it’s opening weekend. The characters were cheesy and not effective actors. It seemed the focus of this haunt’s talent went toward the design of the buildings on the trail, which I will definitely admit was solid, very original, and impressive. So everything looked great and created such a cool spooky atmosphere, but it went to such a waste because of the lack of monsters and lack of interaction. Several monsters weren’t even in costumes- just a mask- so that killed the illusion fast as well. A few broke character and talked to us. Mostly just got the impression that they don’t really care, because there was so little effort coming from the cast. The parts that seemed to get the group in front of us were chainsaws, which the haunt clearly leaned on heavily as there were a loooot of chainsaw scares. The basic safety issues also need to be addressed. A huge part of this haunted trail included sudden drops and very, very uneven footing. Although I can understand this being part of the “adventure” experience, there were things like nails and staples poking out where you try to feel around in the dark spots and very poorly placed corners and hard props that were easy to get injured on when running or falling down any of the several sudden steps down in the dark. One was almost a 3ft step down, hidden by fog and dark light you can’t see coming until it’s too late. Adventure is one thing, but it’s more of a very haphazard obstacle course in the dark than it was an effective haunt, and it’s not advertised as so. Even more concerning is they are apparently planning beer nights where they sell alcohol at the haunt, which just isn’t going to go well for anyone on a trail like that. One final note on safety issues that really made me sympathize for the kids on the hayride back: the tractor drove between 45 and 50mph with two very full hayride wagons attached. It’s already a bumpy ride as is, like most hayrides, but I was literally afraid someone would bounce out of the wagon or one of the wagons would tip over. This did not appear to be an intentional part of the haunt experience and only occurred on the way back, so it’s possible that it was only this one driver, but it definitely did not feel safe. Not sure what the recommended age for this was, but I would not have felt comfortable with older kids on this one because of this hayride and because of the unsafe nature of the haunted trail’s “obstacle course” design. I’ve been to several haunts and have worked at some too, but I’ve never seen one so unconcerned for its guests as Ashland Berry Farm.
