  • Email Verified Not Handicapped friendly

Visited Shocktober in Leesburg with my wife tonight. We chose this haunted house based on the fact that this facility deals with Disabled Individuals on a daily basis. Based on this, my wife thought it would be okay for a mildly handicapped individual with limited mobility issues. This was not correct. Three quarters of the house was fine and not a problem. I was laughing myself crazy as my wife screamed her head off. Then all of a sudden there was a point where you had to crawl to get through followed by an area where you have to walk through air bags that are so tight that not even light gets in. Both of these were extreme challenges to my mobility. On top of this, there are areas where they purposely reduce the size of doorways and you have to squeeze through. Even the non-handicapped people were talking about how they didn't "know how they were going to squeeze their fat bellies through." Nowhere that we read on their website stated "not handicapped friendly" though they do warn people who are sick, pregnant or have heart issues that it may not be advisable to enter. By the time we exited, I was in serious pain from having to push through the air bags. When we came out, the staff asked me if I needed water and had me sit down - I looked that bad off. I was also advised that I probably did not want to visit the "Well of Souls". their other attraction. I decided not to visit this attraction but in a way was not happy because I had paid for it. When I asked the staff why they didn't warn me about the house as a handicapped individual, they just stated they thought "your cane was a prop" despite not being in costume or dressed up. I complained to the ticket booth and was asked "Didn't they warn you at the entrance?" I responded that I was only asked to do a 15 second countdown and nobody stated anything to me or my wife despite the cane and the limp. Plus I told them what their staff stated to me. Surprised that a place that deals with Disabled Individuals on a normal basis would not make a "handicapped friendly" haunted house and did not warn about it not being handicapped friendly. Though the staff was friendly and did apologize.

  • First Rate Haunted Attraction

I visit a lot of haunted attractions and these guys have it down. The mansion provides an amazing setting for a haunt (worth the price of admission just to see it). The Shocktober folks then add professional sets, props, detail, actors, lighting, costumes, and make-up. Absolutely worth the trip!!

  • Great Haunt!!

This event is in a HUGE, real, creepy 1870s mansion with a very creepy basement. There are a few pneumatic props but the haunt really shines because of a cast of 50+ actors in excellent make-up and costumes. The haunt has very well done scenes, props, and lighting. This is a non-profit event with proceeds going to a great cause.

  • We went last year, freaking awesome

This is one of the best haunted houses I have every been to. Looks like the cross between the psycho house and an insane asylum. Just want until you go into the basement and clown house.

  • Moderately Scary?

Moderately scary? Paxton Manor, the Fun House and the Haunted Well of Souls were three of the most terrifying places I have ever been. They were awesome! Hands down the best haunt in the area!

  • What a great house!!!

You could not ask for a better place than a real haunted house. They do an awesome job and also have three other attractions as well. Wearing 3D glasses in the clown house made my head explode.
