Edgehill House Library
Gloucester, VA 23061
Currently known as the Gloucester Woman’s Club, The Edgehill House dates back to 1750 and has served various purposes over the years. It has been a family residence, a store, and a library. In the 1930s, the Club began a circulating library for Gloucester’s rural schools by placing books in five sections of the County and a library in the Edge Hill House. They later organized a fundraiser to start the County Library. It is the library of the building that has been rumored to be haunted. The ghost that is said to linger here is that of Civil War Colonel William Chapman. Chapman has made himself known by making loud noises during the night and locking the doors.
