Emory and Henry College, which was founded in 1836, is said to have at least three ghosts on campus. The sounds of a piano playing have been heard coming from inside the Music Hall, even when the building is supposed to be completely empty. Outside of the Music Hall there is a hanging lamp which swings by itself when there is no wind. It is said that the swaying of the lamp is caused by the phantom of a man who was pushed out a third-story window following an intense debate; the man briefly grabbed hold of the lamp on his way down before losing his grip and falling to his death. Lastly, there is a woman who hanged herself from the shower in MaWa Hall and now causes water to squirt from the wall.
