The Virginia Executive Mansion
Richmond, VA 23219
Also known as the Governor’s Mansion, this historic 1811 building is the oldest serving Executive Mansion in the United States, having been occupied by Virginia’s governors since 1813. Several renovations took place in the 20th century, and the building was furnished with antiques. Though it is still occupied by the Virginian executive and his family, tours are available several times a week.
The building was first reported to be haunted by then-governor Phillip McKinney, who says the apparition of a lady sitting at a window. A police officer later reported seeing her as well, and she has since been blamed for many strange occurrences. Paintings have been mysteriously moved, the basement has become a giant, icy cold spot in the dead of summer, and a light has remained on in after being flicked off.
