The Lafayette Inn

Didn't know anything about the place being haunted until the next morning, but I do remember thinking "this place totally has ghosts" as soon as we pull into the parking lot. Stayed in the cottage, not the main building. I read the guest log the next morning and found that several of the guests before us had done paranormal investigations there. I never saw anything unusual during my one night stay. The only thing that happened was that there was a rattling sound every time the AC kicked on.

I stayed in the Tyler Suite along with my daughter and son -in-law (or soon to be at the time...it was before their wedding nearby...we came and stayed overnight as they were getting their wedding license in town). As for the Inn itself, it is lovely, the owners were very nice and the food was phenomenal. There is definitely activity in the Tyler Suite. I saw photos of it recently in the videos that the Paranormal company made, and it was set up differently when we stayed there. The "sitting" room had a bed in it and that is where my daughter and son -in-law stayed. I stayed in the other room and at the time only had the 1 bed and a sitting area. After we went to bed that night, I was asleep when I was awoken by the lower right corner of the bed moving, as if someone had sat down on the edge of the bed...and then they moved up alongside of me, as if they were going to lay down with me! The entire side of the bed compressed as they did that. I jumped out of the bed and yelled "go away"....and the mattress returned to normal immediately. It was quite scary and I did not sleep the remainder of the night. I found it to be a very un-nerving experience and although I would visit the Inn again and would certainly dine there, I will not sleep there again.

A year ago, I booked the entire Inn for our sons wedding. The wedding was this past weekend 10/30/21. Over the course of the year we came into town a few times to prepare for the wedding & stayed at the Inn. Me, alone in one room, son & daughter in law in another. Honestly, the first time I heard it was haunted was a few days ago, when I went with my son to get his marriage license. Being from out of town, I had no idea. I love the Inn. I chose it solely because its a beautiful, charming old building, with fantastic food & even better service & hospitality. I did not experience anything paranormal nor did my guests. Highly recommended- but not for the ghosts.

We stayed in the Washington Suite, and at night I heard footsteps above our room. We were the only guests in the Inn, and the caretaker went home. We didn’t know about it being haunted until the next morning, for which I am grateful because I wouldn’t have booked the room. It is a lovely place at great price and even greater food!

Lunar Paranormal did a preliminary investigation of the Inn on 5/24/20. We had access to the Inn for three hours. We had experiences in every room from a ghost named Connie who sent chills up and down our arms ( we all experienced it and the Ghost was visible on the SLS Camera) to a discussion with a soldier who died in the building when it was a hospital. Check out Lunar Paranormal Virginia for Video clips of these sessions. This is a beautiful well maintained Inn and Restaurant. It is not a place you can just come to check out. Lovely for a couple who want to experience something other worldly!

I don't know about ghost and ghouls but this lovely in is a perfect getaway for any couple. (This is not a place for kids) The rooms are quaint, comfortable and offer top notch meals. The building itself has a old world feel along with the rooms themselves. Creaky wood floors and antique furnishing complete the feel. I found myself wondering and dreaming how life was like in that time period. If you are looking for ghost and ghouls I can't help you, but a relaxing, romantic retreat is a definete.
