Bridgewater College - Real Haunts in Bridgewater VA
- 402 E College Street
- Bridgewater, VA
Bridgewater College is a private four-year coeducational institute founded in 1880. Campus lore has it that one of the campus buildings, Cole Hall, is haunted by its namesake, Dr. Charles Knox Cole. The building was constructed in 1929 at the behest of Cole’s daughter, Virginia Garber Cole Strickler, and Dr. Cole is said to have occupied the auditorium ever since. His ghost has been seen attending theater productions, often sitting on the balcony, and once caused the stage lights to flicker rapidly as a sign of applause. Cold spots have also been associated with Cole’s presence.

Clearing of the throat
I work at Bridgewater College as a Cleaner. As I was vacuuming the lower part of the auditorium, I heard a loud clearing of the throat, by an older male's voice, coming from the upper balcony. The same night, I was cleaning the lower classroom, located in the basement of Cole Hall, I saw an orb floating closest the far wall. On a previous occasion, while entering the auditorium, myself and my supervisor heard a loud thunderous noise coming from over the stage area, and no one was in there except us. And one other previous time finishing up in the basement, I was walking up the stairs, and heard a female voice whispering to me, very close to my ear, and no one was there to be found.Posted 10/22/20
